For all taxpayers with low-and-moderate-income, with special attention to those age 60 and older:

 
Moderate, Low-income families, seniors and students should feel comfortable to contact the Ann Arbor Community Center at 734-662-3128 to make an appointment for tax preparation. Once an appointment has been made please bring: current year's tax forms and preparation booklet; copy of last year's income tax return; W-2 forms from each employer; unemployment compensation statements; SSA-1099 form if you were paid Social Security benefits; all 1099 forms that show interest or dividends and documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets; 1099 misc. showing any miscellaneous income; 1099-R form if you received a pension or annunity; all forms indicating federal income tax paid; dependent care provider information (name, employer, ID, Social security number); all receipts or canceled check if itemizing deductions; Social Security cards or ther official documentation for yourself and all dependents. We have appointments for February 3 and will continue this service until April 15, 2010.

The Ann Arbor Community Center, under the leadership of Rev. Yolanda Whiten its executive director was identified by the United States Office of Women’s Health Services to develop and implement programs that relate to minority women’s health and intimate partner violence in Washtenaw County. The minority women’s health program began in 2008 and focused on diabetes, cancer, stroke , and stress. Each of these important health topics were discussed weekly. During the first year of the program over 210 women were served.

Rev. Whiten was identified as the first Women of Faith Community Advocate. She was tasked with initiating relationships between leaders in the faith community i.e. clergy and domestic violence advocates and service providers. Currently, the Ann Arbor Community Center, Inc. is one of three sites nationwide participating in a pilot Women of Faith and Intimate Partner Violence initiative.

Ann Arbor Community Center is selected to participate in a diabetes education study over a 15 month period. The Center will be working Dr. Tricia Tang, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Medical Education, Medical School. Participants in the study will receive up to 15 months of diabetes education and support for four clinical assessments at no cost. If you would like to be considered call 1-800-529-5345. To eligible for this study, you must:

  • Have type 2 diabetes
  • Be 21 years or older
  • Reside in the greater Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area
  • Have a regular health care provider
  • Have transportation to attend the education sessions.
